Anthony Maher has a degree in Theology from the University of Durham, a Masters in Religious Studies, from the University of Lancaster, and a Diploma in Social, Political and Economic Ethics from Plater College, Oxford. He also has a PhD in Pastoral Theology from the Australian Catholic University.

Anthony previously taught Theology, Philosophy and Ethics at Newman University, Birmingham. In 2005 he moved to Australia to become Head of Pastoral Theology at the Catholic Institute of Sydney. In 2007 he became a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in London (FHEA).

Most recent publications include: ‘ecclesiology: mysticism contr Realpolitik,’ ‘George Tyrrell and Catholic Modernism, (2010), Ed. Oliver P. Rafferty SJ, (Dublin: Four Courts Press); Educating Hearts: Seven Charateristics of a Good School (St Paul’s Publications, 2013); and and 'Explorations in Practical Theology: Bridging the Divide Between Faith, Theology and Life' (ATF Press, 2015).

Current areas of research include ecclesiology, Catholic identity and mission.
