Borrowing Policy

Library Borrowers and Borrowing Conditions

BBI students

All students enrolled with The Broken Bay Institute may register as a borrower from the Bishop David L. Walker Library. 

BBI Distance Education student can request material be sent out, we will pay the postage out, however, you will be responsible for the return postage on these items. Students can borrow 5 items at a time.

Material may be borrowed for up to four weeks. Items may be renewed.

Course examination results will not be provided until all borrowed materials have been returned.  

SCD students

A student currently enrolled in the SCD through one of its member institutions is entitled to borrowing rights as part of the SCD mutual borrowing agreement. An application form must be filled in and signed by yourself and the librarian of the member institute where you are enrolled. To continue in subsequent years you must provide acceptable proof of continued enrolment.

You can have up to three items on loan for a period of four weeks, renewable if not in high demand.

Examination results can be withheld at your home institution unless all outstanding library items have been returned. 

Clergy, lay ministers, catechists

Priests, deacons, pastoral workers and catechists in the Broken Bay Diocese are entitled to borrow up to three items at any one time for up to four weeks.

Fill in a borrowing application form which must be signed by yourself and (if you are not a parish priest) by the priest-in-charge of the parish where you exercise your ministry. Catechists should have their borrowing application form also signed by a CCD officer.

BBI and Curia staff including CSO Office and Centacare

BBI lecturers or tutors, or a staff member at the Diocesan Curia may borrow and renew material needed from the Bishop David L. Walker Library. The normal borrowing period is 4 weeks. 

School Libraries

Teachers in Catholic schools may borrow resources on Interlibrary loan through their school libraries. Individuals may also borrow through Interlibrary loan via an academic or public library if posting-out and return postage costs are covered.

Items may be borrowed for four weeks and may be renewable if not required. 

General public

Fill out the aplication form and provide proof of identity and resident address. You may borrow from the library after paying a (refundable) security deposit. Please note that security deposits are retained while borrowing privileges are enjoyed. They will be returned when requested with one week's notice.

All borrowing times may be reduced when particular items are in high demand by Broken Bay Institute students.

The Bishop David L. Walker Library does not charge membership fees but depends on the generosity of users for its support.
