Bachelor in Theology
Overview
The Bachelor of Theology is the primary and comprehensive undergraduate award in Theology and the basis for graduate study to the highest levels. It comprises 24 course units (216 credit points).
Admission Requirements
This program is open to students of all ages. Candidates may have no prior academic background at tertiary level.
Program Structure
- 24 course units (216 credit points); three years full-time or part-time equivalent.
- Either two majors, 54 credit points (six course units) each, and one sub-major, 36 credit points (four course units),
- or one major, 54 credit points (six course units), and two sub-majors, 36 credit points (four course units) each.
- At least one sub-major, 36 credit points (four course units), in Biblical Studies and Theology, of which no more than 18 points (two course units) may be at foundational level.
- At least 36 credit points (four course units) from one or more of Christian Spirituality, Christian Ethics, Liturgical Studies, Pastoral Theology and Practice, Philosophy.
- At least 9 credit points (one course unit) in Church History.
- Up to 108 credit points (12 course units) in Pastoral Theology and Practice may be included.
- Up to 72 credit points (eight course units) in Philosophy and Humanities may be included.
- Up to 90 credit points (ten course units) at 100 level may be included.
Notes
- Majors and sub-majors are available in the following subject areas: Christian Spirituality, Biblical Studies, Theology, Church History, Pastoral Theology, Philosophy.
- Sub-majors in Ethics and Liturgical Studies are available in conjunction with other SCD Member Institutes.
- 400 level Masters course units may be undertaken after 108 credit points towards the Bachelor of Theology, including 36 credit points in the relevant subject area, have been successfully completed.
- The requirements of specific course units in majors and sub-majors may also be fulfilled by undertaking an equivalent course unit at another SCD member institution.
- Up to 144 credit points may be given for previous studies.
- The program normally extends over no fewer than three years and no more than seven years.
