Advance your Teaching Career

Andrew SlaterAndrew Slater completed a Bachelor of Teaching/Bachelor of Science at the University of Newcastle and has spent the last seven years teaching in both public and Catholic schools in Dubbo. In 2014 he enrolled in the Master of Theology through UoN-BBI.

What inspired you to study Theology?

I believe that faith should be central to the mission of Catholic schools, growing students in their faith and instilling both a sense of community and Catholic ethos in the students. I wanted to undertake a Masters in Theology so that I could better achieve this.

Why did you choose to study with UoN-BBI?

I was very happy with my undergraduate degree with the University of Newcastle, so I wanted to continue my postgraduate work through them. BBI offers a degree with a wide range of subjects which can be undertaken through online study. This removes the issue of travelling to complete the courses.

Studying theology through UoN-BBI provides me with the opportunity to further advance my teaching career. It has enabled me to engage in current educational theories, allowing me to reflect on and continue to develop my teaching practice.

What have been the highlights of your time studying at BBI so far?

The teaching staff at BBI have always been highly supportive and willing to help with any problems no matter how big or small. The Australian Catholic History course has been the most enjoyable course I have undertaken at either undergraduate or postgraduate level. It was well structured, rigorous and engaging.
