Tom Ryan is a Marist priest now  living in Sydney. He has degrees in modern languages (Wellington, NZ), theology (from Weston School of Theology, Cambridge) and was awarded the first PhD at the University of Notre Dame Australia, Fremantle in 2000.

He is an Honorary Fellow of the Australian Catholic University and an Adjunct Associate Professor of the University of Notre Dame Australia (where he was a staff member 1996-2004).

In 2011-2012, he conducted courses at Good Shepherd Theological College, Auckland, NZ, and has been a tutor with the Broken Bay Institute for some years.

He has worked in parishes and in Adult Faith Education at the Aquinas Academy in Sydney.

His areas of interest and expertise are Moral Theology, its intersection with Spirituality and Psychology and, in particular, the role of affectivity in the moral life, especially in the writings of Thomas Aquinas.

He has also acted as a Judge in the Regional Marriage Tribunal Brisbane.

He has published articles internationally (Theological Studies, Irish Theological Quarterly, The New Dictionary of Catholic Social Thought) and nationally (Australian Ejournal of Theology, Pacifica, The Australasian Catholic Record and Compass: A Review of Topical Theology).
