Graduate Certificate in Religious Education

Graduates can gain accreditation to teach in a Catholic primary school or to teach RE in a secondary school through this award.

The unit content is firmly linked to everyday work practices in contemporary classrooms. Through the course, students will gain critical skills in order to teach an effective religious education curriculum in their local context and to meet the unique challenges of a pluralistic society. Students in this award can choose from a range of practical elective units.

Course Length 0.5 years full-time, or part-time equivalent, amounting to 40 credit points.

Admission Requirements
  • A four year, undergraduate degree in education or an undergraduate degree in an area other than education and a recognised teaching qualification.
  • English-language proficiency.
Entry Pathways
  • Students who have completed an undergraduate degree in education from an approved tertiary will be eligible for entry into the Graduate Diploma in Religious Education.
  • Students who have completed prior studies in the areas of religious education or theology may be eligible for credit.
  • If these studies were at the same AQF level as this course, credit will be considered according to the Credit Transfer and Recognition of Prior Learning policy.
