Ministry in the Church

Unit overview and content

This unit will explore the theology of ministry emerging from the Second Vatican Council with reference to the ecclesiology of communion and sacramental theology. Students will compare and contrast theology of ministry in the period immediately before the Council with that which emerges within and from the Council. Specific questions about reception of the Council and its vision of ministry will be considered. The unit will examine the attempts at renewal of the theology and the practice of ordained ministry and the emergence of lay forms of ministry following the Council. A number of current issues and questions about ministry in the Church will be explored.
