2019 Bonhoeffer Conference

Deitrich BonhoefferBonhoeffer and Public Theology

The 15th Australian Bonhoeffer Conference is scheduled for 3 October 2019 in Sydney, Australia.

This year's one-day conference falls just before the International Bonhoeffer Congress in Cape Town, South Africa (January 2020).
The focus will be on textual analysis and exegesis of selected Bonhoeffer texts, representing a variety of the German pastor and theologian's important contributions over his short, but packed, career.

This conference will be a good opportunity to learn how to 'read' Bonhoeffer for those new to his work, and will offer time for reflection and discussion for those more familiar with it. The conference also supports the BBI-TAITE unit, THEO802.

We will be joined by Professor Michael Mawson and other leading Bonhoeffer scholars from across Australia.

Join us at Caroline Chisholm House, Pennant Hills for a day of immersion into the profound writings of Dietrich Bonhoeffer.

“The annual Bonhoeffer conference continues to be an important contributor to ongoing interest in the theology of Dietrich Bonhoeffer as well as providing a focus generally on the importance of theology in grappling with worldly issues, personal and communal. In both respects, Bonhoeffer continues to be our inspiration.”

Emeritus Professor Terry Lovat, Conference Chair
