John Thomas

John ThomasJohn is the Assistant Principal: Religious Education at St Thomas More College in Sunnybank, Brisbane and has been teaching in Catholic Schools for the last 38 years. He has been Assistant Principal: Religious Education in five secondary schools in Queensland and Victoria.

John is passionate about religious education both in the classroom and through the religious life of the school. In 2016 John was a member of the Expert Writing Team that worked on the new Study of Religion Syllabus which will come into effect in Queensland secondary schools in 2019.

John is currently the QCAA State Panel Chair for Study of Religion. John is also a casual lecturer at the University of Queensland where he teaches final year education students the Study of Religion teaching elective and an optional subject: World Religions and Youth Culture.

John is an executive member of the Australian Association for Religious Educators and has, in this capacity been involved in the facilitating of numerous professional development opportunities for teachers in Queensland schools. John is a member of the Bachelor of Arts Advisory Board at the University of Queensland. John is also the secretary / treasurer of the Queensland Independent Secondary Schools Rugby League which hosts the Confraternity Carnival each year.
